Advancing Global Wetland Forest Research

Our Mission

LiWeFor (Living Labs for Wetland Forest Research) aims to establish a global network of Living Labs dedicated to wetland forest research. We seek to raise expertise among researchers and decision-makers by fostering a robust exchange of knowledge between leading institutions.

We conduct joint field campaigns in Estonia, Peru, and Malaysia to study greenhouse gas emissions and develop sustainable management strategies.

Collaboration

Our Partners

  • University of Tartu (Estonia): Project coordinator, expert in eddy covariance and GHG fluxes.
  • University of Helsinki (Finland): Leading institution in forest ecosystem research.
  • Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany): Renowned for technological innovations in environmental monitoring.
  • TROPI (Malaysia): Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute, experts in tropical peatlands.
  • IIAP (Peru): Research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon.

Key Objectives

Capacity Building & Open Data

Carbon Management: Developing strategies for temperate and tropical wetland forests.
Open Data Repository: Creating a comprehensive database of GHG measurements and environmental factors.
Global Network: Establishing a foundation for the future expansion of Living Labs.

The Future

Our Vision

LiWeFor’s vision is to create a comprehensive, accessible, and collaborative network of Living Labs that enhance wetland forest research globally. By integrating ecological, economic, and social science research, we aim to contribute to a sustainable future.
