Protected undrained peatland swamp forest in Maludam National Park. A pristine reference site for tropical peatland research.

Site Description

The Maludam site is a peatland swamp forest located within the Maludam National Park in Sarawak, Borneo. The undrained peat swamp forest is located between the Batang Saribas and Batang Lupar rivers, where the peat swamp forest area is reported to be protected and minimally disturbed since 2000.

The sampling site was in an Alan Batu forest, which is mainly dominated by Shorea albida trees and characterized by a dense and uneven canopy. This forest is a relatively intact, waterlogged tropical peatland and maintains natural hydrology, making it a pristine reference site for tropical peatland research.
