First Scouting Expedition to Iquitos, Peru

In March 2023, the first scouting expeditions to Iquitos, Peru took place. Teams from the University of Tartu (Estonia), Peruvian Amazon Research Institute (IIAP), National University of the Peruvian Amazon (UNAP), and Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute (TROPI, Malaysia) collaborated in a scientific seminar. Additionally, field campaigns were conducted at Quistococha Nature Reserve and surrounding tropical peatland sites. Field training included selecting measurement sites, installing measurement equipment, conducting GHG flux measurements from soil and palm/tree stems, eddy covariance and gradient measurements, 15N isotope tracer experiments, and sampling for microbiological and chemical analyses. Strong emphasis was placed on training students for fieldwork and future measurements.
