PhD student Laura Kuusemets (University of Tartu) visited the University of Helsinki to develop essential skills for wetland forest studies, including DNA extraction and PCR from tropical peat swamp forest samples. Under expert supervision, she gained hands-on experience in sample preparation for isotope analysis and DNA concentration measurements.

Second LiWeFoR Training and Research Campaign in Iquitos, Peru
The second LiWeFoR campaign took place in Iquitos, Peru, combining the International Peatland Seminar II with intensive field training. Over seven days, ten Peruvian students received hands-on training in cutting-edge methods, including soil and stem GHG measurements, dissolved gas analysis, and microbiological sampling.

PhD student Muhammad Kamil Sardar Ali study visit to KIT
A recent research visit to KIT focused on exchanging knowledge on automated greenhouse gas (GHG) measurement techniques. The PhD student Muhammad Kamil Sardar Ali (University of Tartu) participated in an incubation experiment on nitrogen losses, gaining hands-on experience with MIRO analyzers and other advanced instruments.

PhD student Reti Ranniku study visit to University of Helsinki
PhD student Reti Ranniku (University of Tartu) recently visited the University of Helsinki. Key activities included developing and testing a novel closed-loop system for small-volume gas sampling with LI-COR analyzers, training for incubation studies, and preparing for the upcoming Peruvian expedition. The exchange also featured hands-on calibration work at the Finnish Meteorological Institute and knowledge-sharing meetings.

PhD Student Fahad Ali Kazmi Study Visit to KIT
During a recent study visit, PhD student Fahad Ali Kazmi (University of Tartu) joined the international research team at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology to explore innovative approaches in soil and plant science. Visit by the UT team to Sarawak, Malaysia
To prepare for the complex Sarawak October 2024 visit, two UT team members Drs. Kaido Soosaar and Kuno Kasak provided measurement and teaching activities in both Maludam forest and Betong oil palm plantation. In Maludam, soil sampling and portable laser analyser-based gas measurements from soil and tree stems were conducted. In Betong, the main focus was on sampling and analysing GHG fluxes from drainage channels. 10 TROPI students were carefully studying new methodologies.
